Suspected Harasser Asked: 'However What If I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female indicted with stalking Kate McCann apparently left her a voicemail message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who court testimony revealed has persistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court heard communication data and information recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported missing child cases and is still unsolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
Another voicemail, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm heavy and not pretty like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I believe."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What happens next? Wouldn't that be important for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," the message continued.
The tribunal was advised that through electronic messages, SMS messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a attempt to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an investigator with the police force who gathered the data, informed the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to family friends of the McCanns, according to the phone records.
On 9 October 2024, the father picked up a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I will continue and I will prove my point."
The court learned the co-defendant established a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a trip to the McCanns' property in that area in December 2024.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had reached out using communication app to Mrs McCann to state the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she should be treated respectfully in the months before the visit to that location, that area, in December 2024.
The court was told correspondence between the two accused, in November 2024, considering endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her trash or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We have to assert ourselves," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the appearance to their home, the defendant transmitted a message which expressed: "We're currently positioned outside the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark similar to private investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The trial continues.
